Damit Ihr Hoffnung habt

2. Ökumenischer Kirchentag

München 12.-16. Mai 2010

The biblical texts

The 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag will begin in Munich on 12th May 2010 with Opening Services, of which the biggest one will be on the Theresienwiese. Christians from different traditions will gather to mark the start of this 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag on the theme "That you may have hope" .

Services of worship
Separate services of worship for Ascension Day on 13th May will merge into a huge ecumenical Service of Blessing. The biblical text from Isaiah 57, 14-21 offers encouragement for making changes in the midst of social crisis: "Build up, prepare the way".

On Sunday morning the 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag will finish with a Closing Service on the Theresienwiese. The Magnificat (Luke 1, 46-55) reminds us of God’s transforming power in the midst of human powerlessness and lowliness.

Interpretation of biblical texts
Every morning from 9.30 to 10.30am well-known people from the worlds of theology, politics, culture and other areas of public and social life will give their interpretation of biblical texts drawn from both Old and New Testaments in the daily Bible Studies:

  • Thursday: Genesis 9, 8-17: "God’s eternal covenant"
  • Friday: Romans 8, 16-25: "…in hope"
  • Saturday: Matthew 25, 31-46: "….you did it to me"

Psalm for the 2nd Exumenical Kirchentag
Daytime Prayers will focus on the comfort offered by Psalm 121, the Psalm for the 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag: "May the Lord keep you from all evil, he will keep your life."
